Album Review: Celestial Wizard – Regenesis

Colorado’s power-death hybrid ignites a western metal saga

Emerging from the rugged mountains of Colorado, Celestial Wizard unleashes their sophomore album, Regenesis, on July 11, 2025. Blending the soaring melodies of power metal with the brutal aggression of death metal, the band—featuring Nick Daggers (music/lyrics), Amethyst Noir (vocals), and a tight rhythm section—crafts a high-intensity sound that’s both unique and captivating. Following their debut Winds of the Cosmos, which showcased hard-driving riffs and death metal vocals paired with epic tales of dungeons, zombies, and outer space, Regenesis expands this narrative with a cohesive, emotionally charged western metal journey.

The album opens with “Muerte,” an acoustic western intro reminiscent of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt,” setting a haunting tone that flows seamlessly into “Pale Horse.” This track explodes with a galloping solo and dual vocals; Amethyst Noir’s deathly growls contrasting with melodic lines, carving out a niche that’s both powerful and singable. “Fangbearer” feels like a desert quest, while “She Is The Blade” introduces a guiding hand through the darkness. “Shores of Eternity” paints a vivid sunrise ride, and “Into the Abyss” dives into relentless speed, punctuated by a timely solo. “Ride With Fire” amps up the action, and “Wicked Master”, my reviewer’s entry point, delivers unbroken vocal ferocity. “Emerald Eyes” offers a traditional power metal ballad, though it’s less impactful, before “Regenesis” closes with a melodic death flourish, tying the western epic together.

Clocking in at 45:56, Regenesis is a tightly woven experience with excellent production that highlights every riff and growl. The lyrics maintain a consistent theme, weaving a saga that invites repeated listens. While “Emerald Eyes” feels like a minor dip, the album’s overall ambition and execution are undeniable. The artwork by the legendary Dan Goldsworthy, evoking a western graphic novel vibe akin to SpiritWorld’s Helldorado, adds to its allure.

Celestial Wizard solidifies their place in the new wave of American power metal with Regenesis. It’s a thrilling ride that blends aggression with storytelling, earning a high mark. Catch them live if you can—this is a band on the rise.
