Massachusetts-based cosmic death metal outfit Ancient Death has unleashed their second single, “Unspoken Oath”, from their highly anticipated debut album, Ego Dissolution, slated for release on April 18th via Profound Lore Records. Now streaming across all platforms, the track offers a visceral glimpse into the band’s evolving sound—a potent mix of progressive and technical death metal laced with unrelenting heaviness and introspective depth.

Guitarist and vocalist Jerry Witunsky sheds light on the single’s origins: “Unspoken Oath” showcases the band’s more progressive and technical approach while still retaining pure heaviness. Parts of the song were written as far back as 2014. Lyrically, the song deals with love and longing, and the isolation one can feel within that.” This blend of emotional vulnerability and sonic brutality underscores Ancient Death’s unique ability to traverse inner turmoil and cosmic expanses within the death metal framework.

Recorded and mixed by Seth Manchester at Machines With Magnets—known for its work with boundary-pushing acts like The Body and Full of Hell—Ego Dissolution promises a meticulously crafted sound. The album’s mastering was handled by Dan Lowndes at Resonance Sound Studio, ensuring every riff and growl lands with devastating clarity. Visually, the release is elevated by striking cover art from M. Lemay, with design work by Chimère Noire and photography by Patrick Pucillo, rounding out a cohesive aesthetic that mirrors the band’s dark, contemplative ethos.

“Unspoken Oath” follows the momentum of their earlier releases, building on the foundation laid by the Sacred Vessel EP (2022), the “Glowing Auras” split single (2023), and Demo 2024. With members boasting pedigrees from acts like Atheist and Cruciamentum, Ancient Death is poised to make a significant mark with Ego Dissolution. The single is a testament to their growth—both musically and thematically—offering a taste of the immersive, deadly force that awaits on the full album.

Dive into “Unspoken Oath” now, streaming everywhere, and prepare for Ego Dissolution to redefine cosmic death metal when it drops this April. Check the band’s bio for the link to listen.
