Formed in Warsaw in 2015, Aquilla merge the blazing speed and melodic flair of NWOBHM with classic speed metal intensity, forging their signature “outer space metal” sound. Their sophomore record, Sentinels of New Dawn, marks a major leap forward for the band, both musically and conceptually, following 2022’s acclaimed debut Mankind’s Odyssey.
Drummer Pete Slammer reflects on the group’s evolution:
“It’s a huge step for Aquilla in every way. With Mankind’s Odyssey, we were still figuring out our sound. This time, we knew exactly what we wanted—a forceful, epic sound rooted in old-school heavy metal but with a modern edge.”
Lyrically, the album expands on Aquilla’s ongoing sci-fi universe, chronicling humanity’s survival on a distant planet called Yvad’déra. The band’s world-building approach continues on Sentinels of New Dawn, introducing factions like mad space pirates, berserk mercenaries, and technological overlords, each with their own stories of power and conflict.
“We’re all huge fans of classic and modern sci-fi,” says Slammer. “Our albums are conceptually connected, but there’s room for imagination and interpretation. It’s a mythos built for the listeners to explore.”
Sentinels of New Dawn was mixed and mastered by Olof Wikstrand at Hvergelmer Studio, ensuring the album’s cosmic vision is delivered with clarity and power.
