Arjen Anthony Lucassen Premieres Our Final Song, a 15-Minute Epic from Songs No One Will Hear, Out September 12, 2025

Dutch progressive rock visionary Arjen Anthony Lucassen has released Our Final Song, the 15-minute closing track from his upcoming solo album, Songs No One Will Hear, set for release on September 12, 2025, via InsideOut Music. This eclectic finale blends powerful, epic prog-rock with introspective passages, capturing the emotional journey—anger, regret, peace—of people facing death on the fictional Sanctuary Island. True to Lucassen’s style, the track ends with a mysterious epilogue for listeners to decipher. A mini-movie, crafted by Lucassen, Elan Lopez, Dave Letelier, and Lori Linstruth, amplifies its cinematic scope.

Our Final Song is a progressive masterpiece showcasing Lucassen’s multi-instrumental prowess and knack for storytelling. The track features a stellar lineup, including Irene Jansen (backing/lead vocals), Marcela Bovio and Robert Soeterboek (vocals in Act 5), and Lucassen on lead vocals and most instruments. Koen Herfst’s dynamic drums, Joost van den Broek’s Hammond organ, Ben Mathot’s violin, Jeroen Goossens’ flute/low whistle, and Jurriaan Westerveld’s cello add depth. Mike Mills’ narration weaves a tale of communal farewell. The mini-movie enhances the song’s emotional resonance, evoking the grandeur of Lucassen’s Ayreon and Star One projects.

Since launching Ayreon in 1995, Arjen Anthony Lucassen (born April 3, 1960, in The Hague, Netherlands) has been a prog-rock icon, crafting concept albums with collaborators like Floor Jansen (Nightwish), James LaBrie (Dream Theater), and Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering). His projects, including Star One, Guilt Machine, and The Gentle Storm, blend progressive rock, metal, and folk. Known for multi-instrumental work and intricate narratives, Lucassen’s discography—The Final Experiment (1995), The Human Equation (2004), 01011001 (2008)—has a cult following. He rarely tours, focusing on studio creations and fan engagement via live streams.

No live performances are planned for 2025, as Lucassen prefers studio work over touring. His 30th-anniversary celebrations may include special releases or virtual events, with merch tied to his Ayreon legacy.
