Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates have announced their eighth studio album, The Ghost of a Future Dead, arriving April 24, 2026 via Century Media Records.
The record follows 2021’s The Nightmare of Being and stands as a powerful tribute to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025 due to complications from cancer treatment.
In a heartfelt statement, the band shared:
“In accordance with Tomas’ wishes — including the album title, sound mix, track order, artwork and overall presentation — The Ghost of a Future Dead remains true to form… This album is Tomas’ legacy.”
The album was completed more than two years ago and carefully finalized with Lindberg’s full creative input before his passing.
Recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Örebro, Sweden), the album features artwork by Robert Samsonowitz.
First Single: “The Fever Mask”
“The Fever Mask” was among the final songs written for the album and was chosen as both the opener and first single.
The band describe it as:
“A perfect capture of the essence of At The Gates — raw energy, strong melody and beautiful lyrics by Tomas.”
The accompanying video serves as a moving in-memory tribute to Lindberg’s legacy.
