CONVERGE Release Second Album of 2026, Hum of Hurt, via Deathwish / Epitaph; Share New Track “Slip the Noose”

Converge have released their new album Hum of Hurt, out today via Deathwish Inc. and Epitaph Records. The record arrives as the band’s second full-length release of 2026, following Love Is Not Enough, continuing an especially prolific period in the group’s career.

To mark the release, Converge have shared the focus track “Slip the Noose,” a blistering opener that showcases the band’s signature intensity, technical precision, and emotional volatility.

Critics have already responded strongly to the new material, with Consequence describing it as “propulsive and quite dynamic,” while Knotfest highlighted how it “emphasizes the intensity and technicality that have defined the band’s illustrious career.” Revolver Magazine noted that the album “embraces restraint, letting the band’s intricate, heavy arrangements breathe,” and The Needle Drop called it simply “ferocious.”

Frontman Jacob Bannon described Hum of Hurt as a companion piece to Love Is Not Enough, though not a direct continuation. According to Bannon, the band initially set out to explore a noise rock direction, but the material ultimately evolved into something broader and more emotionally charged.

“When we came together to write, we ended up with a wealth of material,” Bannon explained. “As work progressed we realized we had created two separate albums, and treated them as such.

He added that while Love Is Not Enough leaned more metallic in tone, Hum of Hurt gravitates toward an emotional hardcore aesthetic, blending raw urgency with moments of restraint and dynamic space.

Musically, the album captures the band in both their most aggressive and most reflective states. “Slip the Noose” opens with a furious burst from drummer Ben Koller, while tracks like “Dream Debris” stretch into slow-burning, doom-laden expanses driven by bassist Nate Newton and guitarist Kurt Ballou.

Lyrically, Bannon continues to explore themes of exhaustion, introspection, and human deterioration. On “Slip the Noose,” he examines cycles of personal struggle and the search for release from destructive patterns. Elsewhere, songs like “Detonator” and the title track confront disillusionment, aging, and the emotional cost of artistic commitment.

The album also revisits “I Won’t Let You Go,” originally recorded for Cyberpunk 2077, reimagined with a fuller and more cohesive production approach.

Recorded and shaped through the band’s longstanding collaborative process, Hum of Hurt further solidifies Converge’s reputation for evolving within their own uncompromising framework—balancing chaos, precision, and emotional weight.
