UK progressive death metallers CRYPTIC SHIFT have unleashed their latest single, “Cryogenically Frozen”, taken from their upcoming full-length Overspace & Supertime, due February 27, 2026 via Metal Blade Records.
In stark contrast to the sprawling cinematic openings of their debut Visitations From Enceladus, “Cryogenically Frozen” explodes immediately into a whirlwind of jazz-fusion inflected riffing, hyper-technical rhythms, and lightning-fast thrash aggression. Vocalist and guitarist Alexander Bradley describes the track as a burst of alternate-timeline metal — imagining death metal evolving through the influence of Cynic, Pestilence, and Allan Holdsworth, while still retaining CRYPTIC SHIFT’s trademark headbanging ferocity.
Conceptually, the song introduces listeners to a new protagonist, The Recaller, launching her journey through cybernetic shootouts, dreamlike consciousness, and interdimensional sci-fi chaos. Serving as one of the shorter cuts on the album, “Cryogenically Frozen” acts as a high-speed gateway before Overspace & Supertime plunges into its massive 29-minute centerpiece, “Stratocumulus Evergaol”.
Following the critical acclaim of their 2020 debut, CRYPTIC SHIFT continue to push their self-described “Phenomenal Technological Astrodeath” to new extremes. Early reviews for Overspace & Supertime are already placing the album among 2026’s most ambitious extreme metal releases, with praise coming from Metal Hammer UK, Deaf Forever Germany, and Sweden Rock Magazine.
Produced by Jack Helliwell and mastered by Greg Chandler (Esoteric, My Dying Bride), Overspace & Supertime expands the band’s sci-fi mythology while raising the bar for technical thrash/death metal spectacle.
Overspace & Supertime lands February 27, 2026 via Metal Blade Records.
