Long Island crossover thrash band EXTINCTION A.D. continue their relentless run of new music with “Insomnia,” their seventh single released in as many months. The track is available now across digital platforms alongside an official music video.
Blending the aggression of ’80s Bay Area thrash, ’90s extreme metal and New York hardcore, “Insomnia” channels the frustration of being constantly confronted with global crises while being expected to carry on with everyday life as though nothing is happening.
“I can’t be the only one that feels like they’re bombarded with the atrocities of the world on a daily basis, right?” vocalist and guitarist Rick Jimenez says. “I feel like there are constant reminders of human rights violations and the impending doom of the planet and then a ‘brush it off and just go to work’ mentality.”
For Jimenez, recognizing and pushing back against that cycle became central to the song’s message.
“It’s difficult to break that cycle but understanding it and raging out against it is my first step,” he explains. “Living life with a PEOPLE OVER PROFIT mentality is an act of defiance unto itself today.”
Musically, “Insomnia” is largely constructed around variations of a central riff, with subtle changes and shifts separating each section. The track also gave Jimenez an opportunity to bring a piece of his own musical history into the recording.
“I was also able to use the first guitar I ever owned on the interlude section; a scaled down nylon string acoustic Franciscan guitar that I got in the spring of 1992,” he reveals.

“Insomnia” follows a rapid succession of singles from EXTINCTION A.D., including “They Live, They Die,” “Center Of Zero,” “Truth and Consequences” featuring Incendiary’s Brian Audley, “Thaw,” “Dead Men Running” and “Blood Hoax.”
Together, the seven tracks represent another evolutionary step for the band more than a decade into their career, maintaining the crossover foundations that have defined EXTINCTION A.D. while pushing toward an increasingly heavy and aggressive sound.
Formed on Long Island after breaking away from THIS IS HELL, EXTINCTION A.D. have built their identity around the collision of thrash metal and hardcore. Since emerging in 2013, the band has developed a reputation for explosive live performances, socially charged lyrics and a sound rooted equally in classic thrash and the urgency of New York hardcore.
EXTINCTION A.D. will appear at Within These Walls 2026 at The Nile in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 18 alongside Outta Pocket, Skin Ticket, Die Young and Will To Live.
EXTINCTION A.D. currently consists of Rick Jimenez on vocals and guitar, Ian Cimaglia on lead guitar and vocals, Tom Wood on bass and Mike Sciulara on drums.
