Norwegian progressive metal band Green Carnation have released a new video for “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold,” one of the most emotionally devastating tracks from their latest album, A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis.
Following widespread acclaim for the second installment in the band’s ambitious album trilogy, Sanguis has been praised by major outlets including Metal Hammer, Loudwire, and Angry Metal Guy for its deeply personal songwriting and raw emotional weight.
“A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis is a radically personal, unfiltered and moving album,” wrote Metal Hammer, while Angry Metal Guy called the release “simply breathtaking for the band and the genre.”
The newly unveiled video centers on the haunting ballad “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold,” which features a rare lead vocal performance from bassist and primary lyricist Stein Roger Sordal. The song explores the painful experience of watching a close friend slowly isolate themselves from the world.
“Obviously, this song is about loneliness, but more specifically, it’s about watching a very good and close friend gradually shut himself off from the rest of the world,” Sordal explains. “It’s about sitting on the sidelines, watching it happen and not being able to do anything about it.”
Accompanied by sparse instrumentation and a somber guitar melody, the track stands as one of the most vulnerable moments in Green Carnation’s catalog. Sordal’s restrained yet chilling vocal performance adds further emotional gravity to lyrics that confront despair and emotional withdrawal head-on.
“The songs on Part II come as they are, with no filter,” Sordal adds. “I needed to set these stories free and let them out.”
The video for “Loneliness Untold, Loneliness Unfold” was directed and edited by Rikard Amodei.
