German power metal legends Helloween have unveiled their highly anticipated new album, Giants & Monsters, set for release on August 29, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music. The album, mixed at Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum, Netherlands, follows their chart-topping 2021 self-titled release and is described as their most versatile yet. The lead single, This Is Tokyo, dropped on June 13, 2025, with a vibrant music video paying homage to Japan, a country pivotal to vocalist Andi Deris’s early success. The track, a four-minute stadium anthem, showcases the dual vocals of Deris and Michael Kiske, backed by anthemic riffs and Dani Löble’s dynamic drumming.

This Is Tokyo is a personal tribute from Deris to Japan, reflecting his first major successes there with Pink Cream 69. He notes: “I’ve always wanted to write this song. Japan plays a special role in my life… ‘Tokyo’ stands for a whole country that is very important to me.” The song’s infectious chorus and galloping rhythm, driven by Kai Hansen and Sascha Gerstner’s guitars, make it a live-ready anthem. The video, filled with Japanese cultural imagery, captures Helloween’s high-energy performance, filmed with their signature theatrical flair.

Giants & Monsters pushes Helloween’s boundaries, blending classic power metal with experimental flourishes. Produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward, the album features Löble’s innovative use of three drum kits to tailor each track’s vibe. The 10 tracks, including Giants on the Run and We Can Be Gods, showcase the band’s chemistry, with Michael Weikath emphasizing their creative differences as a strength: “What keeps motivating us is the fact that we’re extremely different. It generates creative energy.” The album’s artwork and tracklist reflect a bold, fantastical narrative, cementing Helloween’s legacy as power metal pioneers.
