MASSETI’s Odds and Ends: A Progressive Metal Odyssey Out June 14

Progressive metal artist Tiago Masseti, under his new solo project MASSETI, will release his debut album Odds and Ends on June 14, 2025. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Masseti—a Brazilian singer, guitarist, and songwriter—brings a wealth of experience from his time with Daydream XI, Kingdom North, Third Eye, and GalaxyA. This 8-track concept album, clocking in at around 55 minutes, fuses technical precision with emotional depth, blending polyrhythms, complex time signatures, cinematic orchestrations, and haunting vocals into a narrative-driven journey through mythology, dystopia, and introspection.

The album kicks off with “Serpents and Whores,” a scathing 7:02 “Against Our Fire” (6:48) follows, a war-torn epic with off-kilter rhythms and sweeping orchestrations by Cezar Tortorelli, depicting a leader’s vengeful return. “The Pool of Liquid Dreams” (7:15) dives into a dystopian VR-drug haze, its glitchy tempo shifts and hypnotic vocals creating a disorienting trip. “Gone” (5:30) strips things down, a minimalist reflection on loss with a guitar duet by Masseti and Renato Osorio, and a solo by Bruno Pinheiro Machado. “The Singer in the Arms of Winter” (6:20) evokes isolation with sparse synths and a chilling guitar solo by Osorio, while “Never Be Like You” (7:50) offers an ambient, emotionally raw meditation on identity, featuring a solo by Marcelo Pereira. “Hindrance” (5:40) captures psychological stasis with restrained dynamics and orchestrations by Fabio Caldeira. The closer, “Heir of the Survivor” (8:10), builds into a cinematic swell, reflecting on legacy and scars with gravitas.

Produced by Masseti and Osorio, the album features Masseti on all instruments and vocals, with guest contributions like bass by Benhur Lima and drums by Eduardo Baldo. Recorded across Masseti Studios (Brooklyn), Black Stork Studios (Brazil), and RDV Studios (LA), it’s mixed by Lima at Angry Pick Studios and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. Masseti’s influences—Opeth, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater—shine through in the intricate compositions and heavy, melodic style.

Having risen through Daydream XI’s performances at Progressive Nation at Sea and ProgPower USA, Masseti wrote Odds and Ends during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic in NYC, choosing to start anew rather than continue under his former band’s name. While the album’s ambition and technicality are undeniable, its heavy reliance on familiar prog metal tropes might not fully break new ground for the genre, though its emotional depth and storytelling set it apart. For fans of layered, narrative-driven metal, this debut marks Masseti as a voice to watch. Pre-order details are expected soon—stay tuned for updates on streaming platforms and live dates!
