Indigenous groove metal band Mawiza, hailing from Wallmapu, the ancestral territory of the Mapuche Nation, has released Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan, the final single from their third album, ÜL, set for release on July 18, 2025, via Season of Mist. The single, featuring guest vocals from Joe Duplantier of Gojira, is now available to watch on the Season of Mist YouTube channel:

Formed in 2014 as Nunca Seremos Dichosos, Mawiza transitioned to their current name in 2021, fully embracing their Mapuzungun language and Mapuche heritage. Their lineup includes Awka (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Karü (lead guitar, backing vocals), Zewü (bass, backing vocals), and Txalkan (drums, percussion).

ÜL, meaning “chant” in Mapuzungun, is a nine-track album that blends tribal rhythms, indigenous instruments, and modern groove metal to honor the Mapuche’s resistance and connection to nature. The album features tracks like Wingkawnoam (To Decolonize), Pinhza Ñi Pewma (Hummingbird Dream), Ngulutu (Western Storm), and Mamüll Reke (Just Like The Tree), alongside the closing track Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan (The Last Harp Call). The latter includes chants from Mawiza’s indigenous community and Duplantier, emphasizing a call for balance with the Earth. Recorded at Estudio del Sur in Chile, produced and mixed by Pancho Arenas, and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, the album’s cover art was created by Kata Ulloa. Additional vocals are provided by Fabiola Hidalgo of Liquen on four tracks.

Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan reflects the band’s mission to raise awareness about the Mapuche territory, drawing from deep sorrow yet echoing the resilience of their ancestral land. The album’s tracklist, with a runtime of 40:30, includes Wenu Weychan (The War of the Sky), Lhan Antü (Dead of the Sun), and Kalli Lhayay (Let It Die), each infused with Mapuche rituals and spiritual themes.
