Australian blackened nu-metal band Mélancolia, formed in 2022 in Melbourne, has announced their third single Picking Scabs from their sophomore album random.access.misery, set for release on August 29, 2025, via Nuclear Blast and Greyscale Records.
Following a 17-date Australian tour supporting Thy Art Is Murder, Picking Scabs dives deeper into nu-metal, blending metalcore and deathcore with Slipknot-inspired elements, DJ scratches, ethereal vocal layers, and $uicideboy$-influenced samples, making it their most daring track yet. The single follows ALL_IS_RUST and SPIT! (featuring Chris Mackertich of Dregg), which introduced new vocal textures and their first guest collaboration. Written for live performances with sing-alongs, mosh pits, and stage dives, Picking Scabs adds to the dark atmosphere Mélancolia is known for. Named one of four “brilliant new metal bands” by Metal Hammer in April, Mélancolia declares, “We are bringing a fresh sound to an otherwise stale scene… Love us or hate us, you will fucking remember us.” Having toured Australia three times since HissThroughRottenTeeth (2023) and Europe/UK twice with Suffocation and Ingested, they join Thy Art Is Murder for another Australian tour in June/July 2025.
