A towering figure in extreme metal, Erik Rutan has forged an unparalleled legacy as both a musician and producer. Known for his guitar work in Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse, Rutan also founded Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL, one of the most important destinations for extreme music production since 1999.

His production credits include landmark albums for Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore, Krisiun, Madball, Nile, Agnostic Front, and countless others. Revered for his exacting standards and ability to push artists to their peak, Rutan’s work balances organic energy with razor-sharp clarity.

In 2021, Rutan officially joined Cannibal Corpse full-time, contributing guitars, songwriting, and production to Violence Unimagined and Chaos Horrific. Bassist Alex Webster noted:

“Erik’s influence and musical knowledge have elevated everything around us. He brings a work ethic and vision that’s unmatched.”

Despite his busy touring and recording schedule, Rutan remains committed to Hate Eternal and the rebuilding of Mana Recording Studios, calling the band “my life’s work” and production “a way to help bands become the best version of themselves.”
