MORGUED have unleashed “Special Planetary Operations,” the first single from their upcoming debut album, Ordnance Obscenum, due out on August 28 via Iron Fortress Records on CD and digital formats.
Serving as the first transmission from the album’s dystopian universe, “Special Planetary Operations” introduces listeners to the sci-fi-inspired world of Ordnance Obscenum. Drawing influence from classic science fiction films, the album explores themes of endless war, authoritarian rule, colonial occupation, and exploitation across a galaxy consumed by conflict.
The band commented on the new single:
“Special Planetary Operations gives the listener a nice snapshot of what the album has to offer; heavy and groovy riffs with evil melodic parts spliced in between. The title of the song should remind you of a familiar phrase uttered over the past several years and the lyrics are a tongue in cheek condemnation of colonial occupation forces.”
Following an atmospheric synth introduction, Ordnance Obscenum launches into a narrative spanning alien battlefields, poisoned planets, cybernetic experimentation, and the ambitions of ruthless warlords across nine tracks.
The album was recorded and mixed by Chris Leamy, mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios, with artwork by Ditch Witch, logo design by NNCP Distortions, and photography by Bug Duggan, Aaron Stoquert, and Return to the Pit/The Reverend.
“Special Planetary Operations” is available to stream now, while pre-orders for Ordnance Obscenum are available through Iron Fortress Records
