SIX FEET UNDER unveil their latest single and video, “Mutilated Corpse In The Woods”, from the forthcoming full-length album Next To Die, set for release on April 24, 2026, via Metal Blade Records. The track is available to stream online along with a lyric video, offering a glimpse of the album’s dark and intense thematic direction.
Guitarist Jack Owen shared the origins of the track, explaining that inspiration came from a combination of a rutilated quartz pendant discovered by his wife and a real-life true crime story. He elaborated, “The chorus came easy. The verses were from a true crime show where a woman described being attacked by an assailant who tied her to a tree and slit her throat. In real life she survived. In this song, unfortunately she did not. My killer buried her where she will never be found. I wrote the music from scratch around the lyrical ideas.”
Next To Die marks SIX FEET UNDER’s fifteenth studio album since their 1995 debut, Haunted. The album is structured into two contrasting sides, “Death” and “Groove”, balancing the band’s signature brutality with rhythmic variation. Vocals were recorded by Chris Barnes at Miami’s historic Criteria Recording Studios, a space where he has recorded most of his work with the band, bringing continuity and depth to the vocal performances.
The album is produced by Jack Owen and Chris Barnes and mixed and mastered by Mark Lewis at MRL Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. Next To Die follows 2024’s Killing For Revenge and is the third collaborative record between Barnes and Owen since their reunion in 2017. The album’s title track captures the themes and intensity of the entire record, encouraging listeners to explore the music and lyrics personally rather than relying on outside interpretation.
SIX FEET UNDER formed as a side project for Barnes during his final years with Cannibal Corpse and became his primary focus in 1995. The current lineup—Chris Barnes on vocals, Jack Owen and Ray Suhy on guitars, Jeff Hughell on bass, and Marco Pitruzzella on drums—delivers the devastating precision fans expect.
