Dutch Nordic folk band Sowulo released reimagined versions of their classic tracks “Yule” and “Ginnungagap” today. The revisited singles, titled Yule (Revisited) and Ginnungagap (Revisited), are now streaming on YouTube via the band’s official channel. They offer a fresh take on the songs, blending their signature pagan roots with a revitalized live lineup.

Founded in 2012 by multi-instrumentalist Faber Horbach, Sowulo draws heavily from Nordic mythology and Anglo-Saxon mysticism. “Yule,” originally released on their 2013 album Alvenrad, marks the winter solstice—a turning point from darkness to light. Horbach composed it as the band’s first song, initially on piano. “Ginnungagap,” first written in 2014 for the 2016 album SOL, explores the Norse concept of the primordial void, evolving over time with layers of Celtic harp, Irish bouzouki, viola, flute, vocals, and percussion. The revisited version deepens its symbolic weight, balancing chaos and order.

These reworks reflect Sowulo’s growth, incorporating their current live sound while staying true to their ritualistic style. The band—Horbach, Chloé Bakker (harp), Pan Bartkowiak (percussion), Koen van Egmond (woodwinds), and Klaartje van Zwoll (viola, violin, vocals)—uses historical instruments and archaic languages to evoke the cyclical nature of life. Fans are appreciating the renewed clarity, with some noting the tracks feel like a sonic rebirth.

You can hear the revisited versions live during Sowulo’s 2025 European tour, starting April 30 in Nijmegen, Netherlands, at Doornroosje, with stops in Stuttgart, Paris, and more. Stream the tracks now and catch a glimpse of their evolving journey.
