TEMPLE OF VOID have announced their fifth full-length album, The Crawl, set for release on March 6, 2026 via Relapse Records. Alongside the announcement, the Michigan-based death metal band has unveiled the album’s title track, accompanied by an official music video directed by The C.O.I.N.
The Crawl finds TEMPLE OF VOID expanding beyond strict death-doom boundaries while retaining the crushing weight that has defined their sound. Guitarist Alex Awn explains that the band approached the new material without genre constraints, focusing instead on writing what he describes as a “heavy-ass record” and allowing the influences to surface naturally. While the caveman heft of Summoning the Slayer remains intact, the new album integrates broader textures, including grunge and post-punk elements, into their death-soaked framework.
Now operating as a quartet, TEMPLE OF VOID deliver a record that is raw, dynamic, and confrontational. Songs like “Poison Icon”, “Soulburn”, and “The Twin Stranger” showcase a balance of brute force and atmosphere, pushing the band’s sound into darker and more psychologically charged territory. Lyrically, vocalist and guitarist Mike Erdody builds on themes of fear and human monstrosity, framing The Crawl as an allegory about life, choice, and consequence.
The album was recorded during an intense January session at Kurt Ballou’s GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks. The goal was a spontaneous, human-sounding record, captured through raw guitar and bass tones and an in-the-room drum sound. Mastering was handled by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon. The striking cover artwork was created by Travis Smith.
With The Crawl, TEMPLE OF VOID continue to evolve while remaining unmistakably themselves, delivering a record that is dissonant, punishing, and deeply human.
