Danish melodic death metal band VANIR return with their new studio album Wyrd, set for release on April 3, 2026 via Mighty Music on LP, CD, and digital formats.
Forged around the timeless concept of fate, Wyrd explores how war, human choice, and consequence intertwine to shape history and the world we inhabit. Drawing parallels between past and present, the album reflects a reality where every decision carries the weight of future destinies. Across its nine tracks, VANIR tell stories of triumph and downfall, of sacrifices made and victories hard won.
The album’s striking artwork, created by David Troest, depicts the legendary Winged Hussar at the Battle of Vienna in 1683, a defining clash in which Polish cavalry forces halted the Ottoman advance into Europe. This historic moment serves as the backdrop for the song “Never Surrender”, told from the perspective of those who stood in defense of the city.
While deeply rooted in historical themes,Wyrd reaches beyond the past. It is a broader meditation on humanity’s eternal struggle with power, destiny, and survival. Blending melodic death metal with epic storytelling, VANIR once again underline the idea that history repeats itself and that today’s choices shape tomorrow’s conflicts.
Wyrd was mixed and mastered at Demigod Recordings, delivering a sharp and powerful sound that matches the album’s thematic weight. With this release, VANIR continue to solidify their position as one of Denmark’s leading history-driven melodic death metal acts.
