YEGG Unleashes Debut Full-Length Rotten On June 6

Vancouver Island, British Columbia death metal band YEGG are preparing to unleash their debut full-length album, Rotten, on June 6. Clocking in at eight tracks and just over 30 minutes, the record delivers the band’s self-described brand of “regressive death metal,” drawing inspiration from old-school legends while channeling the ferocity of modern acts like Obituary, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Sanguisugabogg, 200 Stab Wounds, and Frozen Soul.

Featuring eight tracks including “Primordial Squelching,” “Cavernous Sacrifice,” “Rotten Filth Onslaught,” and “Spirit of Vengence,” Rotten serves as YEGG’s first full-length statement and a deliberate rejection of overproduced modern trends in extreme metal.

“This album is my love letter to death metal,” says guitarist Kyden McCormick. “I wanted to pay homage to those classic artists like Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Cannibal Corpse, while putting my spin on the production and songwriting approach. We’re trying to twist the knobs back to undo the tech death shenanigans and truly unleash regressive death metal in its purest form.”

To capture that vision, YEGG recorded the album live off the floor over three days at Rain City Recorders with producer Matt Roach, whose previous work includes recordings with Liminal Shroud, Atræ Bilis, Mitochondrion, and The Mountain Man. The band opted for a stripped-down approach featuring no drum editing, minimal overdubs, and an emphasis on preserving the raw energy of their live performance.

For McCormick, authenticity was paramount throughout the process.

“A lot of metal these days is about perfection. We’re about regression,” he explains, emphasizing the band’s commitment to maintaining the human element often lost in modern productions.

The sessions weren’t without challenges. Drummer Joey Paul was sidelined by food poisoning after the first day of recording, yet still returned to complete the remaining drum tracks under difficult circumstances. Producer Matt Roach praised the drummer’s determination, describing the performances as “real and honest” and a testament to the band’s dedication to their craft.

Complementing the music is a striking hand-painted album cover created by artist Frank Walls. Inspired by the classic death metal artwork of artists such as Dan Seagrave and Ed Repka, the cover was designed to evoke the same visceral reaction that defined the genre’s golden era. McCormick notes that death metal artwork should serve as an invitation to the listener, signaling the intensity and atmosphere contained within the music.

Walls immersed himself in the album before beginning the painting, allowing the music to guide the visual direction.

“After listening it was pretty easy to sit down and paint the vibe of the album,” says Walls. “I also really appreciated the band’s authenticity to the OSDM vibe. They made my job easy.”

With its combination of cavernous riffs, savage blast beats, gruesome imagery, and unapologetically old-school approach, Rotten aims to be a celebration of death metal’s roots while establishing YEGG as one of Canada’s most promising new extreme metal acts.

Rotten will be released on June 6, 2026, and will be available on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats. Pre-orders for vinyl and CDs are available through the band’s online store.
