North Carolina melodic death metal band Aether Realm have unleashed “The Blood Is Calling,” the first single from their forthcoming studio album, Season of Bloodshed, arriving December 11, 2026 via Napalm Records.
Accompanied by a striking animated music video, “The Blood Is Calling” offers the first taste of a darker and more aggressive chapter for the band. The vampiric opening track combines thunderous kick drums, blast beats, intricate guitar harmonies and sweeping orchestration, setting the tone for the eight-track record.
Driven by drummer Tyler Gresham’s relentless performance, the song pairs the guitar work of Heinrich Arnold and Chris Jones with expansive orchestrations from Martin Gonzalez as Aether Realm push their melodic death metal foundation into increasingly cinematic territory.
Season of Bloodshed follows the band’s 2020 album Redneck Vikings From Hell and arrives after a turbulent period that included the COVID-19 pandemic, Hurricane Helene and a lineup change that saw guitarist Donny Burbage depart and Chris Jones join the band.
Aether Realm describe the new record as an exploration of anger, transformation and the search for catharsis through heavy music.
“This is an album born from an anger that was allowed to fester for too long,” the band explains. “At the confluence of the great injustices of our time and the insignificant wrongs that get under our skin every day, we can find ourselves transformed into our worst selves.”
Across Season of Bloodshed, the band continues to expand its sound while maintaining the complex melodies and aggressive guitar work that have defined its music.
“Control” launches into a high-speed assault built around harmonized guitars from Arnold and Jones, while “Broken Fist” features guest vocalist Taj Jewett and incorporates elements of nu metal and progressive metal into its groove-heavy attack.
“Get Fukt” delivers one of the record’s most openly confrontational moments, with bassist and vocalist Jake Jones leading a venomous charge over harmonized riffs. “The Weight,” meanwhile, moves from atmospheric synths into crushing breakdowns and features orchestration from composer Wayne Ingram, known for his work with Wilderun and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok.
The band’s experience surviving Hurricane Helene informs “Path of the Wind,” which begins with folk-inspired contributions from former guitarist Donny Burbage and violinist Sarah Stepanik before erupting into blackened folk metal, blast beats and communal vocals.
“Achilles’ Heel” takes another stylistic turn, opening with banjo and Jones’ clean vocals before expanding into a dramatic retelling centered on Patroclus and the Greek hero Achilles.
Closing track “Terminus Omnium”—roughly translating from Latin as “The End of All Things”—brings the record to a cinematic conclusion. Featuring orchestrations and additional drums from mix engineer Rob Carson alongside the Western North Carolina Pagan Choir, the song pushes the album toward its largest and most theatrical arrangement.
