Italian symphonic power metal band Alterium has released their epic new single Stormrage, inspired by Illidan Stormrage, the iconic Warcraft anti-hero known as “The Betrayer.” The track, premiered on June 13, 2025, is the title song from their forthcoming EP, Stormrage, set for release on July 25, 2025, via AFM Records. With soaring vocals, blazing riffs, and orchestral grandeur, the song captures Illidan’s inner turmoil—his hunger for power, sacrifice, and quest for redemption. The official music video, featuring cosplayer Andrea Bardi as Illidan, brings the Warcraft universe to life with stunning visuals. Alterium will support the EP with a 2025 European and U.S. tour, including their debut at ProgPower USA.

Stormrage is a bombastic power metal anthem that channels Illidan Stormrage’s complex narrative from World of Warcraft—a night elf sorcerer turned demon hunter, driven by ambition and branded a traitor after creating a second Well of Eternity. Lyrics like “Arcane marks on my arms and burned eyes / Now that I’m blind, I can see more than before” reflect his transformation and exile, sung with commanding presence by Nicoletta Rosellini. The EP bridges Alterium’s debut album Of War and Flames (2024) and their next full-length, featuring two new tracks and two CD-exclusive bonuses: a cover of Symphony X’s Paradise Lost and an orchestral version of Of War and Flames. Artwork by Aleh Zielankievi captures the EP’s epic spirit.

Stormrage draws from Illidan Stormrage, a World of Warcraft character born as a night elf sorcerer over 10,000 years ago. Known as “The Betrayer,” Illidan’s pact with the Burning Legion, creation of a second Well of Eternity, and transformation into the first demon hunter led to his exile. His amber eyes, fel tattoos, and Warglaives of Azzinoth define his iconic image. Despite noble intentions to save Azeroth, his actions—absorbing the Skull of Gul’dan and ruling Outland—cemented his anti-hero status. The song captures his duality as “child of darkness and light,” reflecting his conflict with brother Malfurion and unrequited love for Tyrande Whisperwind.
