Amorphis Unleashes Bones from Upcoming Album Borderland

Finnish progressive melodic death metal legends Amorphis, formed in 1990 in Helsinki, have released their second single, Bones, from their 15th studio album Borderland, set for release on September 26, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music.

The track, accompanied by a music video directed by Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Arch Enemy), is available to stream at amorphis.rpm.link/bonesPR and watch:

Unlike the uplifting Light and Shadow, released June 6, 2025, Bones delves into darker, heavier territory with thunderous riffs, Eastern-tinged strings, and keys, culminating in a cathartic chorus driven by Tomi Joutsen’s soaring vocals. Lyrically, penned by longtime collaborator Pekka Kainulainen, Bones reflects the survival struggles of Finland’s ancestors, blending intensity with moments of hope. Keyboardist Santeri Kallio notes, “As a starting point, I wanted to prove that even a keyboard player can create an AMORPHIS song which is based on a heavy riff, and to everyone’s surprise, ‘Bones’ turned out to be the heaviest ‘Borderland’ song”.

Borderland, recorded at Hansen Studios in Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe), features artwork by Marald Van Haasteren (Metallica, Black Sabbath). The album’s 10 tracks (plus two bonus tracks on digipak-CD and vinyl) include:

  1. The Circle
  2. Bones
  3. Dancing Shadow
  4. Fog To Fog
  5. The Strange
  6. Tempest
  7. Light And Shadow
  8. The Lantern
  9. Borderland
  10. Despair
Bonus Tracks (digipak-CD & vinyl only):
  11. War Band
  12. Rowan And The Cloud

Pre-orders are available at amorphis.rpm.link/borderlandPR in formats like limited box-set, 2LP vinyl, digipak-CD, and digital. Amorphis, comprising Tomi Joutsen (vocals), Esa Holopainen (guitars), Tomi Koivusaari (guitars), Olli-Pekka Laine (bass), Santeri Kallio (keys), and Jan Rechberger (drums), will support Borderland with the European Blood Dynasty 2025 Tour alongside Arch Enemy, Eluveitie, and Gatecreeper, starting October 10 in Stuttgart, Germany, and a Finnish headline tour in November and December 2025. They’ll also perform at 70000 Tons of Metal from January 29 to February 2, 2026.
