Progressive/atmospheric death/black metal band An Abstract Illusion, formed in 2007 in Boden, Sweden, announces their third album The Sleeping City, set for release on October 17, 2025, via Willowtip Records. The lead single No Dreams Beyond Empty Horizons premiered its video on July 30, 2025, on YouTube with the track available on August 1, 2025.
Pre-orders for CD, limited longbox CD, 2xLP vinyl, and digital formats begin August 1, 2025, at willowtip.com. Produced by Karl Westerlund and mixed by Robin Leijon, with drums recorded by Jakob Herrmann at Top Floor Studios, the album features artwork by Alex Eckman-Lawn. The Sleeping City blends progressive death and black metal with 80s sci-fi influences from Depeche Mode and Boards of Canada, exploring human suffering. The lineup includes Christian Berglönn (lead vocals), Robert Stenvall (keyboards, vocals), Karl Westerlund (guitars, bass), and Isak Nilsson (drums, background vocals).
