Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES have unveiled an official full-album animated movie for The Ghost of a Future Dead, expanding the band’s final album with vocalist Tomas Lindberg into a massive conceptual visual experience.
Released this past April through Century Media Records, The Ghost of a Future Dead serves as a deeply significant chapter in the band’s history and a tribute to Lindberg, who passed away in September 2025.
Longtime AT THE GATES collaborator Costin Chioreanu of Twilight13Media created the visual project, handling the painting, filming, editing and production. Each of the album’s 12 songs has received its own animated video, with the complete sequence also assembled into a full-length album movie.

Chioreanu previously revealed portions of the project through videos for “The Dissonant Void” and “In Dark Distortion.” With the remaining ten pieces now released, his complete visual narrative can be experienced alongside the album from beginning to end.
“This is by far the most intense project I’ve done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic,” Chioreanu says.
He describes the finished work as a monument to his late friend: “I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond.”

“The Fever Mask” was also previously accompanied by a separate memorial video for Lindberg assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus.
The Ghost of a Future Dead was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, with artwork by Robert Samsonowitz. The album received widespread critical acclaim following its release, earning top Soundcheck positions from several European metal publications and strong reviews from Kerrang! and Decibel Magazine.
The album is available digitally and in multiple physical configurations, including CD digipak, standard jewel case and black or limited colored vinyl editions.

AT THE GATES’ music will also receive a symphonic treatment later this year as part of The Gothenburg Sound, a series of concerts presented by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Music from AT THE GATES will be interpreted alongside material from fellow Gothenburg metal pioneers IN FLAMES and DARK TRANQUILLITY at Gothenburg Concert Hall on December 3, 4 and 5.
