International heavy metal duo BERGFRIED have unveiled the lyric video for “Tears of a Thousand Years”, taken from their forthcoming album Romantik III, out October 24, 2025 via High Roller Records. Watch the lyric video:
Following 2022’s Romantik I and 2023’s Romantik II, the new album marks the final installment in the band’s ambitious trilogy—and their first release under High Roller Records. The group features Erech von Lothringen, who performs all instruments, and Anna de Savoy on vocals.
While von Lothringen is often associated with underground black and heavy metal projects such as Golden Blood, Bergfried explores a more melodic, theatrical, and emotionally charged sound. He describes Romantik III as “a concept album in which Anna journeys through hell in search of her lover, confronting both God and the Devil, with aid from a heavenly messenger. It may sound like a typical battle of good versus evil, but nothing is as clear as it seems.”
Musically, the album blends classic heavy metal with rock opera and symphonic influences, drawing comparisons to Meat Loaf and 70s/80s AOR, while maintaining the melancholic tone that defines the Romantik series. “It’s probably down to my love of Bat Out of Hell,” von Lothringen notes, adding that Romantik III is more compact and direct than its predecessors.
The album features Fabio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Enforcer, Bonfire) on drums, Sam Plekhanov on bass, and Mat Plekhanov (Red Eye Temple, Dragony) on guitar solos. Additional choir contributions come from Maria Nesh, Sam and Mat Plekhanov, and von Lothringen, recorded at RET Records Vienna.
Romantik III was mixed and mastered by Olof Wikstrand (Enforcer) at Hvergelmer Studio & Music Production, with artwork by Aaron Lawrance and photography by Emma Szabó.
