CONVERGE Share New Single “We Were Never The Same”

Hardcore and metal visionaries CONVERGE have unveiled “We Were Never The Same”, the final and closing track from their upcoming album Love Is Not Enough, due out February 13 via Deathwish Inc. and Epitaph Records.

Serving as both an emotional and sonic climax to the record, “We Were Never The Same” captures the band at their most reflective and devastating. Vocalist and lyricist Jacob Bannon explains that the song was written while confronting loss in a deeply personal moment.

“I wrote these words in the parking lot of a funeral home while reflecting on loss. Why do we gather to mourn but not to cherish? It’s an honest question that exposes our collective distractions and shortcomings. Grief brings clarity. We all must do better.”

Love Is Not Enough is being described as the culmination of CONVERGE’s decades-long evolution across punk, hardcore, and metal. With every song sharpened to maximum impact, the album delivers a relentless, emotionally charged experience that speaks directly to the anxiety, grief, and volatility of the modern world. From the opening blast of the title track to the closing storm of “We Were Never The Same”, the record moves with urgency, fury, and precision.

The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks. Bannon also handled the artwork and design, creating individual visuals for each track alongside a striking cover image depicting a celestial witness to a world in flames.

For more than thirty years, CONVERGE have stood as one of the most influential forces in underground heavy music. From the landmark Jane Doe to 2021’s Bloodmoon: I, the band has continuously pushed emotional and sonic boundaries while staying rooted in intensity and purpose. As Bannon states, the band remains more vital than ever.

“We still identify this band as the outlet that’s essential to our lives. We give everything we have to it. Being past your average middle age, we’re starting to see deeper than before into a variety of places. And I don’t think that’s specific to us. I think that’s something that’s utterly relatable.”

Love Is Not Enough is available for preorder now and will be released February 13 on Deathwish Inc. and Epitaph Records.
