DOWN have released “The Myth,” the latest single from their long-awaited new album Volume V, arriving November 20, 2026, via Nuclear Blast Records.
Opening the new record, “The Myth” delivers the New Orleans band’s familiar combination of heavy grooves and doom-soaked riffs before shifting into a ’70s-inspired jam. The track follows previously released single “Blood Oath.”
“‘The Myth’ has some epic moments,” vocalist Philip H. Anselmo says. “It’s a jammer. It’s got a big nod to Trouble, but vocally I’m thinking of James Dewar, Ronnie James Dio, Ozzy Osbourne, Glenn Hughes, and many of the other greats. The track and video are both straightforward and hammering.”
Guitarist Kirk Windstein describes the song as “a perfect example of a classic DOWN collaboration,” while Pepper Keenan calls it “classic DOWN in all its hammer-fisted glory.”
An official video for “The Myth,” directed by MetalDave Media, is available now.
Volume V brings together Anselmo, Keenan, Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower and bassist Pat Bruders for DOWN’s first full-length album since Down III: Over the Under in 2007 and their first new studio release since the Down IV – Part Two EP arrived in 2014.
Much of the album emerged from two writing sessions at Anselmo’s Nodferatu’s Lair studio, where the band developed the material together through in-person jams throughout 2025.
“These days, there’s no pressure,” Anselmo explains. “We each showed up with what we had, and everybody added their input. It was a true band effort.”
Volume V was produced by Eddie Mapp and DOWN, mixed by Dave Fortman and mastered by Maor Appelbaum.
