Boston’s FINAL GASP have announced their second full-length album, New Day Symptoms, set for release on February 27 via Relapse Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled the lead single “The Apparition”, now streaming with an official music video.
Steeped in nocturnal death rock and driven by post-punk tension and hardcore urgency, New Day Symptoms expands the sound FINAL GASP introduced on their acclaimed 2023 debut Mourning Moon. Where that record drew heavily from classic underground death rock, the new album broadens the palette, pulling from rock and punk lineages while grounding everything firmly in the present.
Lead single “The Apparition” captures that evolution. Frontman Jake Murphy describes the song as “a story of reality being much more horrifying than fiction.” Centered on survival, regret, and consequence, the track pairs haunting atmosphere with relentless momentum. The accompanying video, directed by Caleb Gowett and Bill Politis, visually amplifies the song’s sense of dread and inevitability.
Written through a more collaborative process than previous releases, New Day Symptoms reflects a band opening itself up creatively. With all members contributing ideas and producer Arthur Rizk guiding the sessions, the album was shaped through constant hands-on collaboration. That openness allowed FINAL GASP to explore new tones while staying rooted in their underground foundations.
Lyrically, the album shifts perspective. Rather than focusing solely on personal loss, many songs are written from an outside viewpoint, examining moments where outcomes could not be changed. The result is a record that confronts fear, acceptance, and movement forward with conviction and clarity.

New Day Symptoms was produced by Arthur Rizk and arrives as FINAL GASP prepare to hit the road on a North American headlining tour, kicking off next month. Known for their ability to connect across scenes, the band continue to carve out a space where death rock, punk, and heavy music intersect with purpose.
