KING ULTRAMEGA have unveiled a moving new tribute cover of Chris Cornell’s “Preaching The End Of The World”, honoring the late icon while raising funds and awareness for MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s nonprofit organization providing mental health care, addiction recovery resources, and emergency support to music industry professionals.
Originally one of Cornell’s most emotionally resonant solo compositions, the song receives a cinematic reimagining from KING ULTRAMEGA that preserves its vulnerable core while expanding its sonic depth through layered guitars, atmospheric keyboards, and dynamic arrangement.
The recording features an all-star lineup including Ian Thornley (BIG WRECK) on vocals, Pete Thorn on guitars, Mark Menghi on bass and production duties, Dave Kerzner and Frank Mitaritonna on keys and synths, and legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff. The track was mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur, with artwork and video created by Costin Chioreanu.
Reflecting on the project, Menghi described the song as “about loneliness and searching for connection,” noting how deeply Cornell’s authenticity and vulnerability continue to resonate. Thorn, who previously toured with Cornell, recalled performing the song live and emphasized the importance of honoring both the music and the man behind it.
Beyond paying tribute, the release aims to give back to the music community through MusiCares, supporting artists and industry workers facing mental health challenges and personal hardship.
A limited LP featuring additional Cornell classics “The Day I Tried To Live” and “Rusty Cage” is also available through Reigning Phoenix Music, SOUNDGARDEN, and KING ULTRAMEGA webstores, with exclusive purple and lilac vinyl variants for U.S. and European fans.
