Canadian metal band Kittie are marking the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album Spit with the release of a brand-new EP, SPIT XXV, due out September 19, 2025 via Sumerian Records.
Widely regarded as a cornerstone of Y2K-era heavy music, Spit cemented Kittie as one of the most daring and influential bands of their generation. Now, a quarter-century later, the band revisits their early fury with reimagined renditions of fan favorites including Brackish, Charlotte, and Do You Think I’m a Whore?
Produced once again by Garth Richardson, who helmed the original 1999 release, SPIT XXV captures the spirit of Kittie’s early chaos while updating the sound with a modern edge.
To kick off the celebration, Kittie have unveiled a crushing new video for the re-recorded title track, Spit XXV, directed by William Felch (Wombat Fire). The video reignites the energy of the original track while showcasing the band’s continued power and presence.
Frontwoman Morgan Lander reflected on the milestone:
“It’s hard to believe that 25 years after its release, and almost 30 years since Kittie began, people are still talking about Spit. Reimagining some of these classic songs for the anniversary was a lot of fun and a true testament to their longevity. Working with Garth again after more than two decades was an amazing way to pay homage to the past while bringing these songs into the future.”
The current lineup, Morgan Lander (vocals, guitar), Mercedes Lander (drums), Tara McLeod (guitar), and Ivy Jenkins (bass), carries the torch forward with renewed fire, proving that Kittie’s impact remains as sharp and uncompromising as it was in 1999.
