Italian doom metal band MESSA have released a new remix of “At Races” by acclaimed darkwave act COLD CAVE, offering a fresh interpretation of one of the standout tracks from their critically acclaimed album, The Spin, released via Metal Blade Records.
The remix transforms the original’s haunting atmosphere with a darker synth-driven sound, blending MESSA’s doom-laden foundation with COLD CAVE’s signature darkwave and synthpop aesthetic.
Vocalist Sara expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, describing COLD CAVE as one of her favorite bands and citing their album Cherish The Light Years as a deeply personal source of inspiration during difficult times. She noted that the collaboration was especially meaningful, hoping listeners would embrace the remix and enjoy it as much as she did.
Following a series of European summer festival appearances, MESSA will return to North America this fall as direct support for UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS. The tour begins on September 5 and runs through October 11, with several headlining performances scheduled in select cities, including Asheville, Richmond, Little Rock, Reno, Vancouver, and Grand Rapids.
After the North American run, the band will embark on a European headlining tour from October 27 through November 21 with support from fellow Metal Blade Records artists THE NIGHT ETERNAL.
Released last year, The Spin showcases MESSA‘s evolving sound by incorporating elements of early goth rock and darkwave alongside the band’s established blend of doom metal, jazz, blues, progressive rock, black metal, and dark ambient influences. The band has cited artists including THE SISTERS OF MERCY, VIRGIN PRUNES, KILLING JOKE, MERCYFUL FATE, THE SOUND, BOY HARSHER, and VANGELIS as inspirations for the album’s expanded sonic palette.
The Spin received widespread critical acclaim upon release, earning high placements on several year-end lists, including No. 2 on Decibel magazine’s Top 40 Albums of 2025 and No. 5 on Metal Injection’s Albums of the Year list. The album has also surpassed four million Spotify streams within its first year.
