Medieval metal project NETHERWILDS have unleashed their latest single, “Helm Yeah,” taken from the forthcoming debut album, Peasant Rising, arriving October 9 via King Volume Records.
This time around, revolution can wait until morning.
“Helm Yeah” follows NETHERWILDS’ resident peasant hero Worm Chewer as he trades toil and taxation for a much-needed night of drinking. After reaching the bottom of a cask of ale, he stumbles upon a nobleman’s great helm. The logical next step? Put it on, gather the townsfolk and celebrate like a peasant who has suddenly climbed several rungs above the mud.
Built around a rowdy combination of medieval folk and heavy metal, “Helm Yeah” serves as a drinking anthem made for raised tankards and questionable decisions while offering a lighter glimpse into the strange world surrounding Peasant Rising.
Worm Chewer proclaims:
“My quest for the goat led me to the bottom of a cask of ale, I must say. But in my drunken stupor I did stumble upon a treasure most rare. Aye, a nobleman’s great helm! And what good is a peasant’s life and if one can’t make merry with his fellows, amid the sorrow and toil? Dress for the job you want to have! Hold my ale, I’ll show you how to frolic with the best of them.”
Across Peasant Rising, NETHERWILDS blend blackened metal, medieval folk, doom and cinematic atmosphere into an eccentric narrative following Worm Chewer’s transformation from downtrodden laborer into an increasingly unlikely revolutionary.
Produced and mixed by Jesse Turnbull (Dear-God, Doflame), the album unfolds as a sprawling medieval adventure packed with mud, monsters, misfortune, rebellion and moments of peasant ingenuity. Each song adds another chapter to Worm Chewer’s journey, gradually transforming his personal struggle for survival into a much larger uprising brewing beyond the castle walls.
“Helm Yeah” captures one of the story’s more celebratory detours, where fellowship, ale and borrowed armor briefly triumph over the hardships of feudal existence.
