Spanish doom-death collective Sun of the Dying will return this fall with their highly anticipated third full-length, A Throne of Ashes, set for international release on November 21st via AOP Records.
To mark the announcement, the band has unveiled the album’s first single, Black Birds Beneath Your Sky, now streaming exclusively on the AOP Records YouTube channel.
Formed in 2013 in Madrid, Sun of the Dying channel the bleak grandeur of doom-death pioneers such as My Dying Bride, Anathema, and Paradise Lost, while weaving in shades of modern heaviness inspired by bands like Swallow the Sun, Ahab, and Shape of Despair. After earning acclaim with their debut The Roar of the Furious Sea (2017) and its follow-up The Earth Is Silent (2019), the band has continued to evolve, sharing stages with Sylvaine, Officium Triste, and Evadne, and even reaching the finals of the Wacken Metal Battle twice.
Recorded at The Empty Hall Studio and mastered by Javi Félez at Moontower Studios, A Throne of Ashes promises to be Sun of the Dying’s most expansive and crushing work to date. The record is adorned with evocative artwork by Manuel Cantero.
