Midwest death metal trio Thaumaturgy will unleash their second album, Pestilential Hymns, on October 20, 2025, through Memento Mori (CD format). Formed in 2021 by multi-instrumentalist KT and now expanded to a power trio with TG and DS, the band has evolved from their early death-doom roots into a more chaotic, blackened, and unorthodox form of death metal.
The album blends furious, ripping riffs with cavernous doom passages, flashes of dark melody, and haunting synths, evoking influences from Necrophobic, Incantation, Morbid Angel, Sinister, Grave Miasma, and Demoncy. Lyrically and sonically, Pestilential Hymns is a descent into despair and madness, guided by anguished, Van Drunen-esque vocals and dense, suffocating atmospheres.
The record’s cover art, created by Daniel Hermosilla (Nox Fragor Art), channels an ancient, diabolical aesthetic befitting Thaumaturgy’s forward-thinking yet tradition-rooted sound.
