Jacksonville, Florida blackened Southern Gothic band The Noctambulant have released the video for their new single, “Skeleton Key”, taken from their forthcoming full-length album, Revival, due out September 18 via Terminus Hate City.
The track marks the latest preview of the band’s upcoming release and further showcases their distinctive fusion of black metal, Southern Gothic atmosphere, blues, rockabilly, and American country influences. While rooted firmly in extreme metal, The Noctambulant continue to expand their sound by incorporating elements drawn from the rich musical and folkloric traditions of the American South.
Discussing the song, the band explained:
“This track captures the desire to achieve salvation and transcendence—by any means necessary. It tells the story of using one body to reach immortality in another. The weakness of the flesh must be overcome in the pursuit of something greater.”
“Skeleton Key” balances ominous atmosphere with explosive aggression, moving from deliberate, foreboding passages into high-speed blackened assaults. The song’s dark themes of transformation, mortality, and transcendence align closely with the album’s broader Southern Gothic vision.
A New Chapter In Southern Gothic Black Metal
Recorded at Tri-Rush Studios, Revival was engineered and produced by guitarist/vocalist E. Helvete and drummer D. Franseth. Mixing and mastering duties were handled by Daniel Thabet at Liquid Studios, while the album artwork was created by Dream Creatures.
Formed in Jacksonville in 2013 following the breakup of a psychobilly project, The Noctambulant emerged from a desire to combine black metal’s intensity with the myths, folklore, and supernatural traditions of Southern Appalachia. Alongside bassist Lars Goerschafft and guitarist Rev Beaumont, the band have developed a sound that blends blackened death metal ferocity with haunting storytelling rooted in regional history and legend.
Drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, and Dark Funeral, the group channels both aggression and atmosphere into a style that reflects the darker side of Southern folklore.
