Progressive/avant-garde death metal visionaries VOIDCEREMONY return this fall with their third full-length album, Abditum, set for release November 14th on 20 Buck Spin. Emerging from the depths with labyrinthine compositions and an abstract, otherworldly vision, Abditum expands the band’s singular approach to death metal into even darker, stranger territories.
The album’s first single, Seventh Ephemeral Aura, is now streaming on YouTube and Bandcamp, offering a glimpse into the record’s complex interplay of scathing riffs, jazz-inflected rhythms, and unnerving atmospheres.
Composed primarily by Wandering Mind (Garrett Johnson), the songs twist and fracture into unpredictable shapes — veering from luminous clarity to abyssal murk — aided by guitarist The Archonoclast (Jayson McGehee), drummer Dylan Marks (Atheist-live), and a dual-bass assault from The Great Righteous Destroyer (Damon Good – Mournful Congregation, Stargazer, Cauldron Black Ram) and The Absent Deity (Ben Ricci). Together, they conjure a cacophony that rewards deep immersion and repeated listens.
Recorded by CK at Exum Studios (Escondido, CA) with additional sessions at RMC, and mixed/mastered by Andy Kite at Against the Grain Studio in South Australia, Abditum is completed with evocative artwork and layout by Khuzuzu.
Fans of Stargazer, Pestilence, Chthe’ilist, Morbid Angel, Immolation, The Chasm, Atheist, and Timeghoul will find much to explore in this latest descent.
