Experimental metal trio AGENBITE MISERY have unveiled “A Charitable View of Temporary Insanity”, the latest single from their forthcoming debut album Remorse of Consciousness, due out February 6, 2026.
Serving as the emotional centerpiece of the album’s first half, the track is a sprawling, multi-layered meditation on death, memory, and psychological turmoil. Adapted from the “Hades” episode of James Joyce’s Ulysses, it follows protagonist Leopold Bloom’s funeral procession through Dublin, an odyssey of grief and introspection. Using lyrics drawn directly from Bloom’s interior monologue, the band channels Joyce’s dense stream-of-consciousness into a massive, genre-defying soundscape.
Opening with field recordings and delicate bass harmonics, “A Charitable View of Temporary Insanity” slowly unravels into crushing sludge-laden riffs, drifting through moments of funeral doom, ambient noise, and blackened dissonance. It’s a harrowing, intimate passage that epitomizes the band’s mission: to find emotional truth within sonic extremity.
Dense yet human, abstract yet visceral, the single solidifies AGENBITE MISERY’s reputation as one of extreme metal’s most ambitious new voices.
Due out February 6, 2026, Remorse of Consciousness transforms each chapter of Ulysses into a standalone composition, an intricate concept album that bridges literary modernism and experimental metal. Through this adaptation, AGENBITE MISERY explore consciousness, decay, and rebirth in ways that challenge and redefine the boundaries of the genre.
Formed in New Hampshire in 2022, AGENBITE MISERY is the union of Sam Graff (guitar, vocals, synth), Cam Netland (bass, vocals), and Adam Richards (drums, vocals). Drawing from backgrounds in both academia and the underground metal scene, the trio merge literary ambition with sonic extremity.
Their music fuses black metal, sludge, death metal, post-punk, ambient, and noise rock, not for eclecticism’s sake, but to serve an overarching artistic purpose. The band’s work is a confrontation with meaning, identity, and the violent beauty of consciousness itself.
Members previously collaborated in metal projects such as UNDER GREEN SUNS, VICARIUM, and COAGULATE, but AGENBITE MISERY stands apart: an act as cerebral as it is punishing, driven by the conviction that heavy music can still be literature, philosophy, and art.
