Russian atmospheric black metal project AMMANAS has released its new full-length album, Anthems from the Ancient Tales, out now.
Drawing inspiration from the ancient legends of Arda and the mythic world of Middle-earth, Anthems from the Ancient Tales delivers an epic and immersive journey through forgotten kingdoms, mist-covered mountains, ruined lands, and the fading echoes of ancient wars. The album captures the grandeur, melancholy, and austere beauty of Tolkien-inspired fantasy through sweeping atmospheric black metal steeped in nostalgia and myth.
From the drowned ruins of Beleriand to silent forests and shadowed halls of fallen realms, the record evokes a timeless world where the songs of bards still linger and the memory of heroes remains alive beneath the fading light of a forgotten age. Combining majestic melodies, cold atmospheres, and cinematic storytelling, AMMANAS crafts music that feels both ancient and dreamlike — “music about an eternal and beautiful world that never truly existed…”
The concept behind the album artwork further expands on the record’s deep fantasy themes. The cover depicts a lone seeker who has spent years gathering fragments of lost knowledge from ancient Númenórean scrolls, forgotten hymns, and charred manuscripts hidden within the dusty libraries and underground archives of Gondor. Through dark basements, damp grottoes, and abandoned halls shrouded in cobwebs, the figure slowly uncovers the truth surrounding the Dark Lord and the secret of the One Ring.
With Anthems from the Ancient Tales, AMMANAS offers a powerful tribute to epic fantasy and atmospheric black metal, creating a richly detailed sonic world filled with sorrow, wonder, and ancient memory.
