Crowned In Crimson” features a striking and deeply personal father and daughter vocal collaboration between AMORPHIS frontman Tomi Joutsen and his daughter Iida. The song blends sweeping cinematic arrangements with the unmistakable melodic weight of AMORPHIS, echoing the spirit of their acclaimed 2025 album Borderland while adding a new layer of emotional intimacy. Lyrics by long-time collaborator Pekka Kainulainen vividly bring the tragic Kalevala figure Kullervo to life, steeped in sorrow, destiny, and mythic force.
Guitarist Esa Holopainen comments, “Director Antti Jokinen got in touch with us and briefly told us about his ambitious film project. After seeing visual material and going through the script, he hoped AMORPHIS would create the film’s theme song, a project we agreed to immediately.”
Director Antti Jokinen adds, “Amorphis’ music feels like strength wrapped in beauty, heavy enough to shake the landscape, yet poetic. Their sound lifts my spirit directly into the world of Kalevala myths and its characters. It was exactly what I was looking for.”
For decades, AMORPHIS have drawn inspiration from the Kalevala, introducing its ancient stories to metal audiences worldwide. With Son Of Revenge: The Story Of Kalevala, those mythic visions finally reach the big screen, paired with a song that feels both monumental and deeply human.
