Spanish death metal veterans AVULSED have unveiled “The Exordium,” the latest single from their upcoming covers album, Nordic Embryogenesis, due for release on September 9 through Xtreem Music.
Originally appearing on Swedish death metal band CREMATORY‘s 1990 demo of the same name, “The Exordium” represents the tenth installment in AVULSED’s ongoing weekly rollout, with a new track being released every Friday leading up to the album’s launch.
Frontman Dave Rotten explained that CREMATORY stood apart from many of their Swedish contemporaries by blending death metal with grind-influenced aggression rather than following the sound established by bands like Entombed, Dismember, and Carnage. He cited vocalist Stefan Harrvik as one of his greatest influences, praising his distinctive vocal style and the crushing atmosphere of the band’s early recordings.
Rotten also noted that while CREMATORY‘s later demo Wrath From the Unknown is generally considered the band’s best-known release, he intentionally selected “The Exordium” because of its personal significance and the raw, chaotic production that helped define its unique character.
The album pays tribute to influential Nordic death metal acts that shaped AVULSED’s sound, with each cover highlighting bands that left a lasting impression on Rotten throughout the genre’s formative years.
