American death metal band Castrator have released Fragments of Defiance, the second single from their upcoming album Coronation of the Grotesque, due August 15 via Dark Descent Records. The track is available for streaming on YouTube.
Coronation of the Grotesque follows the band’s 2022 debut Defiled in Oblivion and addresses themes including injustice, victimization, and human suffering. The album’s lyrics reflect on real-world topics such as the death of Mahsa Amini, ancient Sumerian practices, and the abuse committed by Naasón Joaquín García. Vocalist Clarissa Badini delivers the content with directness and force, supported by contributions from established names in the U.S. death metal scene.
Recording sessions for the album took place across several studios:
- Bass recorded by John Tardy (Obituary) at Redneck Studios
- Guitars and vocals by Jordan Milner at Obsidian Audio
- Additional guitars by Taylor Nordberg (Deicide) at Smoke and Mirrors Productions
- Drums recorded and album mixed/mastered by Noah Buchanan (Nunslaughter) at Mercinary Studios

Castrator will also perform on December 5 at the Decibel Magazine Metal and Beer Fest in Denver, alongside Acid Bath, Blood Incantation, and others.
