New York hardcore crossover pioneers CRO-MAGS have released “Everybody’s Gonna Die (2026),” a newly recorded version of the 1985 demo-era favorite that will appear on the upcoming The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel.
The album arrives November 13 via BLKIIBLK, celebrating four decades of the band’s landmark 1986 debut, The Age of Quarrel.
Originally written by Harley Flanagan in 1985, “Everybody’s Gonna Die” appeared during the band’s demo era but was ultimately left off the final The Age of Quarrel tracklist. Four decades later, the song has been brought back as part of the new recording project, accompanied by an official lyric video.
The single arrives today, September 16, marking the 40th anniversary of the original album.
Revisiting The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years Later
Released in 1986, The Age of Quarrel became a defining record in the development of New York hardcore and the crossover between hardcore punk and metal.
For 40 Years of Quarrel, founding bassist and vocalist Harley Flanagan is joined by original Age of Quarrel guitarist Doug Holland and former CRO-MAGS/SUICIDAL TENDENCIES guitarist Rocky George, along with Meg Mills, Zach Blair, Arthur Rizk, and current CRO-MAGS members Dominic Dibenedetto and Dave Sharpe.
Drummer Greyson Nekrutman performs on all tracks.
The record features newly recorded versions of songs including “Hard Times,” “World Peace,” and “Malfunction,” alongside “Everybody’s Gonna Die.”
Arthur Rizk, whose credits include POWER TRIP and BLOOD INCANTATION, produced and mixed the album.
From Documentary Soundtrack to Full Album
The idea to revisit The Age of Quarrel emerged during production of the Wired for Chaos documentary.
According to the band, several songs needed to be re-recorded for the film’s soundtrack after the original recordings could not be licensed. Those sessions ultimately inspired Flanagan to revisit the complete album.
The project also gave Flanagan an opportunity to address longstanding issues surrounding the original release. According to the announcement, musicians who performed on the original The Age of Quarrel did not receive payment or an accounting of the record’s sales.
Flanagan had previously attempted to reunite the original lineup to re-record the material and pursue rights to The Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes through copyright reversion, but a full reunion did not come together within the required timeframe.
With the new recordings, the musicians who wrote the songs are set to receive songwriting royalties through ASCAP and BMI, while the remaining proceeds from the project will go to charity.
For Flanagan, 40 Years of Quarrel serves as both a celebration of the music and an opportunity to close a complicated chapter in the band’s history.
“The songs belong to the fans. Love wins. The quarrel is over,” the announcement states.

Formed from Flanagan’s early musical vision in New York in the early 1980s, CRO-MAGS would become a central name in the development of crossover hardcore. After the band’s early demos, the lineup of Flanagan, guitarist Parris Mayhew, vocalist John Joseph McGowan, and drummer Mackie Jayson recorded the influential 1985 Age of Quarrel demo, with Doug Holland later joining on second guitar for the 1986 full-length.
Four decades later, The Age of Quarrel: 40 Years of Quarrel brings those songs back into the present while celebrating the record’s enduring place in hardcore and metal history.
