UK progressive death metallers CRYPTIC SHIFT will release their new album Overspace & Supertime on February 27, 2026 through Metal Blade Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has shared a new video for the track “Hexagonal Eyes (Diverity Trepaphymphaszym)”, offering a first glimpse into the album’s expansive sci-fi narrative.
Formed in Leeds in 2015 by vocalist and guitarist Alexander Bradley and drummer Ryan Sheperson, CRYPTIC SHIFT fuse technical thrash and death metal with an obsession for science fiction storytelling. Their 2020 debut Visitations From Enceladus established the band as a standout force in extreme metal, earning acclaim for its progressive structures and cosmic themes.
Overspace & Supertime continues and expands upon the conceptual universe introduced on their debut, presenting an alternate reality filled with stranger dimensions and increasingly bizarre encounters. Sheperson describes the album as a deeper synthesis of the band’s influences, pushing their so-called “Astrodeath” sound into more ambitious and extreme territory.
Produced by Jack Helliwell and mastered by Greg Chandler, the album features artwork by Jesse Jacobi, inspired by classic science fiction imagery and designed to visually echo the band’s debut. The new single showcases CRYPTIC SHIFT’s most intense and technically demanding material to date, combining relentless riffing with intricate composition and vivid narrative detail.
With Overspace & Supertime, CRYPTIC SHIFT raise the bar once again for progressive thrash and death metal, delivering a release that is as conceptually rich as it is musically ferocious.
