Cryptopsy Unleash Brutal New Single Dead Eyes Replete from Ninth Album An Insatiable Violence

Montreal’s technical death metallers Cryptopsy are set to release their ninth studio album, An Insatiable Violence, on June 20, 2025, via Season of Mist. Fresh off their 2024 JUNO Award win for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year for 2023’s As Gomorrah Burns, the band delivers a ferocious 33-minute onslaught that pushes their signature sound to new extremes. The album’s lead single, Dead Eyes Replete, dropped on June 11, 2025, with a visceral lyric video premiered via BraveWords. The video showcases the band’s unfiltered aggression, with Christian Donaldson’s frenetic guitar work, Flo Mounier’s blast beats, Oli Pinard’s breakdown, and Matt McGachy’s bat-like shrieks.

An Insatiable Violence is a twisted reflection of society’s toxic relationship with social media, inspired by J.G. Ballard and David Cronenberg’s transgressive perspectives. McGachy conceived the concept in a dream: a person endlessly perfects a torturous machine, mirroring humanity’s obsession with algorithms that tear us apart. Tracks like The Nimis Adoration tackle mukbang culture, while Dead Eyes Replete critiques digital voyeurism. The album, recorded and mixed by Christian Donaldson at his studio, features some of Cryptopsy’s fastest passages, including rare gravity blasts from Mounier, balanced by groovy, melodic moments. Guest vocalist Mike DiSalvo (And Then You’ll Beg) returns for Embrace the Nihility, echoing past glories. The cover art, by late vocalist Martin Lacroix, adds a poignant tribute.

McGachy reflects: “It’s a continuation of As Gomorrah Burns. We wanted a groovy record, and we think we’ve done it.” Mounier, likened to an Olympic athlete, pushed his drumming with new techniques for speed and dynamics, while McGachy’s evolved false chord screams hit new depths. Written partly during the Death to All tour, the album showcases Cryptopsy’s post-COVID focus, with faster workflows and a commitment to biennial releases. The JUNO win, celebrated mid-tour in Europe, underscores their enduring relevance 30 years in.
