Shadows to Release Debut Album Miseria on August 29, 2025

German/Swedish blackened death metal quartet Shadows will release their debut album, Miseria, on August 29, 2025, delivering nine tracks of unrelenting misanthropy. Formed by members of Visceral Bleeding, The Berzerker, Enshrined, and Ominous, the band combines Scandinavian black and death metal roots with a crushing, melodic, and suffocating signature sound. The album’s first singles, Lamia and As Above So Below, are out now with lyric videos, available on Bandcamp and Spotify.

Miseria explores themes of existential dread and the futility of human existence, offering no redemption—only raw nihilism. The band states: “Miseria aims to explore the vast uncaring nothingness and the dread of our futile existence. If you are looking for release or redemption you won’t find them here. The album is unmistakably rooted in Scandinavian black and death metal but delivers it with its own signature. It is crushing and suffocating but also melodic and solemn.”

Founded in 2021 by Dejan Milenkovits as a solo project during the pandemic, Shadows began with a handful of songs released in 2022. Enlisting Finnish drummer Filip Gäddnäs and producer Mathias Lodmalm, Milenkovits expanded the project into a full album. By 2025, Shadows solidified as a quartet with Milenkovits, Martin Bermheden, and Joél Cirera (both ex-Enshrined), joined by bassist Andreas Holm. Their sound draws from blackened death metal giants like Necrophobic and Dissection, infused with a modern, oppressive atmosphere.
