DEVILDRIVER have released the official music video for Strike and Kill, the crushing title track from their upcoming album of the same name, due out this Friday via Napalm Records.
One of the heaviest offerings on the record, Strike and Kill blends the band’s trademark groove metal foundation with elements of melodic death metal, thrash, and slam, delivering a relentless assault of technical riffing, drumming, and frontman Dez Fafara’s unmistakable vocal intensity.
Speaking about the song, Fafara explained:
“Strike and Kill is a song about individuals that have to learn lessons the hard way. Sometimes in life, you need to learn things the hard way in order to make your next decision or next move properly. Beware the moves you make at midnight behind emotion and without any thought of consequence. For you will learn lessons, and they will be taught to you the hard way.”
The release follows a successful lead-up campaign in which the album’s first two singles climbed the Metal Contraband charts while receiving heavy airplay on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal, including reaching No. 2 on the station’s “Devil’s Dozen” countdown. Fans have already hailed the new material as a return to form for the California groove metal veterans.
Strike and Kill follows the band’s acclaimed Dealing With Demons Vols. 1 & 2, with the new album continuing DEVILDRIVER’s signature combination of crushing grooves, melodic death metal influences, blackened atmosphere, and uncompromising aggression.
Opening track Dig Your Own Grave launches the record with blistering speed before giving way to Dead in the Water, which highlights the melodic interplay between guitarists Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold. Elsewhere, Sanctified In Scars incorporates industrial textures, while In the Moonlight and Never Coming Home balance brutality with guitar harmonies. Tracks including Ride or Die, Headed for the Fall, and You’re Just a Ghost emphasize the band’s technical precision, while Summoning Shadows provides a brief atmospheric respite before the album closes with the explosive All Bets are Off.
