Swedish D-beat veterans DISFEAR have announced their long-awaited new album, The Last Nail, arriving November 20, 2026 via Relapse Records. The band have also shared the record’s first single, “Early Graves.”
Recorded before the deaths of vocalist Tomas Lindberg and drummer Marcus Andersson, The Last Nail captures their final recorded performances with DISFEAR and stands as a tribute to the members the band has lost over the years, including guitarist Henrik Frykman.
“Struggle, pain, and loss. Since Live the Storm we have now lost 3 members of our band to cancer — Henrik, Tomas, and most recently Marcus,” DISFEAR explain. “While we lost Henrik shortly after Live the Storm, Tomas and Marcus stayed active with us and were part of our new album, The Last Nail, which we’re announcing today.”
Written across 14 years and recorded during the past three, the album remained important to both Lindberg and Andersson, who wanted the finished record released as soon as possible.
“Before Marcus passed, he saw a final copy of the album, and we wish to share the same joy it brought him, with you,” the band continue. “Tomas and Marcus were extremely proud of their performances on this album, as we all are, and we invite you to hear their final performances on The Last Nail.”
The band also reflected on their final recording sessions together in April 2024, remembering them not for the difficult circumstances surrounding the album, but for the time spent together.
“We had a wonderful time. We didn’t think of the dark stuff. These were times of laughter,” DISFEAR say. “Marcus, Tomas, and Henrik, this one is for you.”
DISFEAR unleash first single “Early Graves”
Opening with “A Circle of Disease” before charging directly into “Early Graves,” The Last Nail finds DISFEAR returning with the relentless D-beat attack, snarling guitars and punk-infused aggression that have defined the band.
“Early Graves” focuses on the fragile state of the world and the destructive systems surrounding it, with Lindberg delivering:
“Silenced through comfort
All passion in vain
Mechanical slaves
To systematic death”
Lindberg recorded his vocals during a spring 2023 visit to Welfare Sounds in Gothenburg. Originally intending to make only a few edits to existing demo vocals, he instead re-recorded all eight songs after inspiration struck during the session.
Later that year, Lindberg received a cancer diagnosis that would significantly limit his creative work. His lyrics for The Last Nail had already been filled with imagery surrounding death, disease and darkness before the diagnosis.
Instrumentation for the album was tracked at God City with Kurt Ballou and at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg. Magnus Lindberg handled mixing at Redmount Studios, while Sören Von Malmborg mastered the record at Cosmos Mastering.
Alongside DISFEAR’s trademark intensity, The Last Nail incorporates flashes of the band’s loose rock ’n’ roll character, bringing another dimension to their established collision of hardcore punk, metal and D-beat.
The album artwork was created by Robert Samsonovits, who also photographed the final The Last Nail lineup together during the band’s April 2024 studio session.
