Australian symphonic metal and gothic rock band CARMERIA have released their new single, “Unto the Dawn,” accompanied by an official music video. The track is the second single from the band’s forthcoming third studio album, Ex Cathedra, due independently on October 30, 2026.
Following the Gothic grandeur introduced with previous single “Caelira,” “Unto the Dawn” combines somber atmosphere, cinematic arrangements and uplifting melodies with a message centered on supporting loved ones through difficult times.
Written and arranged by vocalist, songwriter and producer Jordan von Grae, the song draws from personal experiences of caring for someone going through a period of turmoil. Rather than suggesting that another person’s suffering can simply be taken away, “Unto the Dawn” focuses on the importance of presence, compassion and support.
“We cannot take another person’s suffering away, but we can help ease the burden through love and support,” the band explains.
The song also serves as a message to CARMERIA fans who have shared stories about finding comfort in the band’s music during challenging periods.
That relationship between the band and its audience extends into the official “Unto the Dawn” music video. Members of CARMERIA’s Patreon community, known as The Carmunity, participated as extras in the production, with some reportedly traveling more than 1,000 kilometers to take part in the shoot.
The videos for both “Unto the Dawn” and “Caelira” were designed and developed by von Grae and produced by von Grae and Mishka Bobrov. Greg Oroth handled directing, filming and editing duties. Shot at VAMP by Lisa McGuigan in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, the videos establish the broader visual world surrounding Ex Cathedra.
For this era, CARMERIA have adopted a Gothic and vampiric masquerade aesthetic filled with glittering masks, elaborate garments and sweeping cloaks, complementing the theatrical character of the band’s music.
Ex Cathedra was mixed by von Grae and mastered by Miro Mastering. The album and single artwork was designed by von Grae and illustrated by Hassane, with coordination by Bobrov. Matt Bartolo handled the album photography.

Due October 30, Ex Cathedra marks CARMERIA’s third full-length studio album and expands the group’s established symphonic metal and gothic rock foundations with a stronger melodic rock influence.
The record centers around the idea that suffering may be an unavoidable part of life, but despair does not have to be. The concept allows CARMERIA to explore themes of grief, resilience, love, isolation and solidarity while continuing the dramatic, melody-driven approach that has characterized the band’s previous work.
The album follows CARMERIA’s 2024 sophomore record Tragédie D’amour and their 2025 EP Trinity: Volume I.
About CARMERIA
Formed in Sydney in 2012 and now based around the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, CARMERIA blend symphonic metal, gothic rock and melodic rock with cinematic arrangements, soaring choruses and narrative-focused songwriting.
Following the dissolution of the original lineup in 2013, the project was rebuilt in 2014 around founding guitarist Jerry Zahija and vocalist Jordan von Grae. Keytarist Mishka Bobrov joined in 2018, followed by bassist Emma Louise Nagy in 2021, establishing the band’s current core lineup.
CARMERIA have remained completely independent throughout their career, with the musicians taking active roles in songwriting, production, visual design, social media and the business side of the project.
Their discography includes the 2013 debut EP Awakening, standalone singles “Carpe Noctem” and “Solaris,” 2021 debut album Advenae, 2024’s Tragédie D’amour and 2025’s Trinity: Volume I.
The band have also developed their live presence through Australian headline and co-headline tours and appearances alongside artists including Flyleaf, Wednesday 13, Battle Beast, Toehider and Valhalore.
