Brazilian death metal band CRYPTA have unleashed a new single, “A Portrait of Decay,” marking the first music released with the band’s current lineup and offering an early look at their next chapter.
The track follows the addition of Victoria Villarreal as CRYPTA’s permanent guitarist earlier this year. Villarreal joins bassist/vocalist Fernanda Lira, drummer Luana Dametto and guitarist Tainá Bergamaschi, completing the band’s current four-piece configuration.
Musically, “A Portrait of Decay” delivers an aggressive death metal attack balanced by atmospheric and melancholic elements. Lyrically, the song explores dissociation as a way of enduring pain and suffering.
The single was recorded in Belgium in June 2026, with Yarne Heylen handling engineering, mixing and mastering at Project Zero Studio. Artwork for the release was created by Brazilian artist Marcos Miller. Be
Alongside its digital release, “A Portrait of Decay” is available as a strictly limited 7-inch solid fuchsia vinyl through Napalm Records
CRYPTA have also released an official music video for the track. Written by Dametto, the video’s dreamlike imagery deliberately contrasts with the intensity of the music while visually interpreting the themes behind the lyrics.
Dametto explains:
“The video clip is both an almost poetic contrast to the harsh death metal sound but also a cinematic depiction of the lyrics: An ethereal and almost dream-like landscape that represents someone’s true state of being, clear thoughts and light emotions, that slowly dissipate with the passing of time and changing of surroundings.”
As the video progresses into darker surroundings, that initial clarity gives way to feelings of disorientation and isolation, reflecting how circumstances and the passage of time can alter perception and emotional state.
“A Portrait of Decay” arrives ahead of CRYPTA’s upcoming North American run on the Wrath Across North America Tour 2026 with ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SEPTICFLESH and THROWN INTO EXILE.
The tour begins October 5 in Riverside, California and continues across the United States and Canada through November 16. The run includes three Florida dates: Orlando on October 15, Fort Lauderdale’s Revolution Live on October 16, and Tampa on October 18.
Formed in 2019 by former NERVOSA members Lira and Dametto, CRYPTA released their debut album, Echoes of the Soul, in 2021, followed by Shades of Sorrow in August 2023. Following extensive touring and festival appearances supporting Shades of Sorrow, the band recently brought that album cycle to a close.
With Villarreal now firmly established in the lineup and “A Portrait of Decay” serving as the first glimpse of new material, CRYPTA are officially moving into their next era.
The band have also confirmed appearances at Austria’s Area 53 and Germany’s Wacken Open Air in 2027, with additional dates still to be announced.
